Where the Name Comes From

Long before it was El Encanto, it was El Paseo de El Encanto, the Promenade of Enchantment, dedicated in August of 1933. Troubadours, magicians, and puppeteers once wandered its walkways. Artists sold their work under the same sky. Gift shops and curio stalls sat beside restaurants serving Mexican and American fare, and the marketplace became one of Avalon's favorite places to shop, eat, and simply be.

That spirit of a gathering place, alluring enough to pull people in and warm enough to make them stay, is what this building has always offered the island.

When Steven and Brenda Hoefs took on El Encanto, they weren't starting from scratch. They were restoring something Avalon had loved for nearly a century and asking what it could still become. Their hope for the building is simple: that it feels like it never left, and that it belongs to everyone. A spa and salon for slow mornings. A café for regulars and first timers. A boutique worth browsing. An event venue that turns any occasion into something worth remembering. All of it under one roof, built with care for the address and for the community around it.
